Brandon is a big place that grew fast. The Census counted about 12,700 people here in 1970 and about 114,600 in 2020, so the older core was plumbed in a hurry in the 1970s and 1980s while newer streets went in later in plastic. Under it all is flat, sandy ground that sits wet from June to September. Those three facts explain most of the drain calls in this part of Hillsborough County.
The articles below start from them. Some are about records and soil, some about the cost of a camera or a jetting visit, and a few are for people who rent, live in a townhome or own a manufactured home on the east side. Each one says where a number comes from, and each one says so when an answer depends on a pipe nobody has looked at yet.
If you want figures first, open the Brandon hydro jetting cost guide. For older houses, read hydro jetting for older Brandon homes, and for routine care use the drain maintenance schedule.

About These Brandon Drain Articles
Open the sewage backup article for the order of calls, and stop using water first. Hillsborough County asks residents to phone (813) 307-1000 for a backup into a home. For emergency drain service, call 813-733-7188 any hour.
Public sources: the county’s sewer GIS layers, Census Bureau housing surveys, USDA soil data, National Weather Service reports and EPA guidance. Where a fact could not be confirmed, it was left out, and where we are inferring, the article says so.
Yes, as they relate to residential drain lines: townhome rows, small owner-run buildings and rented houses. Two posts deal with shared stacks and with documenting repeat backups for a landlord or association. We do not cover commercial properties.
Two articles touch on it: one on bottled enzyme products, which quotes EPA, and one on manufactured homes in Dover, Thonotosassa and Mango. We cannot say which individual lot is on septic, so confirm yours before booking drain work.
Call or text 813-733-7188. We will tell you what we think is going on, how urgent it is and about what it should cost, whether or not it becomes a job. If the question comes up often, it may become the next article.
